Energy Minister Walid Fayad: To update the National Water Sector Strategy
Minister of Energy Walid Fayad praised on Thursday at the opening of 13th session of the Arab Ministerial Water Council chaired by Lebanon from the League of Arab States Secretary-General headquarters the work of the committee charged with amending the Arab water security strategy in the Arab Region in order to confront major challenges.
 
Fayad also urged the region’s countries “to address the challenges they are facing in order to overcome the water problem and achieve their water security.”
 
“The severe pressure on Lebanon’s water sector as a result of Syrian displacement issue, as well as the acute economic crisis in the country, in addition to Israel’s ambitions in Lebanese waters, all made the implementation of the National Water Strategy and the rescheduling of its priorities one of the utmost necessities,” Fayad explained.
 
He also said that “the Ministry has worked on updating the national strategy for water sector in line with these changes, and it will soon present it to Lebanese Council of Ministers for approval.”
