Lebanon-Israel talks in Washington conclude with focus on ceasefire, set to resume June 22

A round of Lebanese-Israeli negotiations in Washington concluded after two days of talks focused primarily on the ceasefire file.

During the discussions, the Lebanese delegation insisted on securing a full ceasefire. The talks later expanded to include proposals for a gradual cessation of hostilities and phased implementation mechanisms based on specific timelines and geographic areas.

Since Tuesday, discussions have also centered on the possibility of issuing a joint statement by the negotiators, although U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio did not take part in the negotiations.

The U.S. State Department said progress had been made toward a comprehensive agreement between Lebanon and Israel, arguing that such an arrangement could help restore Lebanon’s sovereignty while providing security for Israel.

The negotiations are scheduled to resume in a new session on June 22.
