Bassil: Agreement with Hezbollah failed to build state
Head of the Free Patriotic Movement MP Gebran Bassil said on Thursday that the Mar Mikhael agreement between the FPM and Hezbollah failed to "build the state," calling for the party's weapons to be placed "within the policy of the state" without the goal being to disarm it.
Bassil’s comments were made to the Anadolu Agency whereby he said that the agreement with Hezbollah needs "development in terms of reform and state-building," considering that Hezbollah's return to government meetings "is part of the response to development, but it is not sufficient."
"The dispute with Hezbollah is clear and significant in terms of internal affairs," Bassil emphasized.
On another note, he stated that his party wishes to have the best relations with the Gulf countries while emphasizing the importance of not preventing them from having relations with other countries such as Turkey and Iran.
He also described relations with Ankara as "good."
