March 14 approves Berri’s proposal on electoral law committee

Following a meeting of the March 14 forces at the home of MP Boutros Harb, MP Samir al-Jisr held a press conference whereby he said that they had agreed to House Speaker Nabih Berri's proposal to convene at a hotel near parliament to discuss a new electoral law.

“We are committed to holding the elections on time and hold the March 8 camp responsible for any delay given the suspicious statements issued by some of its members recently.”
The gatherers renewed their call for the government’s resignation and the “formation of a neutral one that can honestly oversee the parliamentary elections.”

In his concluding remarks Jisr stressed that the discussions should not exceed one week.
According to high-ranking political sources in March 14, representatives of opposition poles held a “secret” meeting at the residence of former PM Saad Hariri in downtown Beirut a few days ago.

Participants had reportedly agreed to inform House Speaker Nabih Berri that they agreed on his offer to hold a closed meeting for the sub-parliamentary committee in charge of discussing the electoral law in a hotel near the Parliament amid tight security measures taken by both the Lebanese army and the internal security forces.
