Rai: There is no priority today other than electing a new president

Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai said on Saturday that “what is happening in Lebanon confirms that there is a plan against the country, pointing out to the deliberate obstruction of the election of a new president so that Lebanon becomes without any legitimate authority.

“What do you want and why do you destroy the state of Lebanon?” he added.

Rai’s comments were made during his Christmas message from Bkerke whereby he noted that “there is no priority today other than electing a president for the republic.”

He made it clear that he is calling for a conference under the auspices of the United Nations in order to distance the country from any military confrontation.
