Aoun calls on the cabinet to control border

Change and Reform bloc Leader MP Michel Aoun said Tuesday that “only the joint forces on the Lebanese border can determine whether Syria is violating our border or not,” urging the Lebanese to ignore rumors.

Aoun appealed to the government, following his bloc weekly meeting, to fulfill its obligation, control the border and stem smuggling from and into Syria.

Commenting on possible international sanctions on Lebanon should the cabinet fail to pay its share of the STL costs, Aoun said “Imposing sanctions on Lebanon is an invasion and a military operation”.

“The cabinet took a unilateral decision and became a conjoined member of the U.N. Security Council,” he elaborated.

Asked about the economic divisive issue, Aoun said that he rejects any tax increase on the gasoline or VAT, stressing the importance of changing the tax system. “Taxes, property taxes in particular, should be divided over rentier profits,” he added.
