5 Roumieh Islamic suspects include 3 Lebanese, 1 Jordanian, 1 Yemeni

The first Military Investigation Judge Riad Abu Ghida received on Saturday from Judge Saqr Saqr the file of the Islamist suspects involved in the killing of Ghassan al-Qandaqli.

Sheikh Nabil Rahim and Sheikh Mohammad Ibrahim had spent two hours and a half in Roumieh prison’s bloc B in a bid to convince Islamist detainees to go back to being subject to the authority of the state and security forces. Following long negotiations, Islamist detainees agreed that the 5 suspects be transferred from bloc B to another location inside the prison for investigations, refusing that investigations be conducted outside the prison.

In this regard, judicial sources told LBCI that investigations will kick off on Saturday, adding that Judge Abu Ghida will start looking into the case on Monday; “he will either accept the case or refer it to another judge.”

According to judicial information, if Judge Abu Ghida accepts the lawsuit, he will be heading to the Roumieh Prison to conduct investigations if required.

As for the 5 persons accused of having killed al-Kandakli, they include Lebanese national Bilal Ibrahim aka Abu Obeida, Yemeni national Salim Saleh aka Abou Tourab, Jordanian national Abdel Malek Youssef Athman Abdel Salam whose name was included in the case of Chadi al-Mawlawi’s arrest, in addition to two non-Islamist Lebanese nationals, one of whom is a member of the Baydoun family.

Well-informed sources told LBCI that among the 200 Islamist detainees, around 30, mostly non-Lebanese Fateh al-Islam militants, form the gang which is running the prison.
