Sheikh Qabalan calls on religious communities to form a committee to discuss civil marriage

Following a meeting with a delegation of student youth organizations, Vice President of the Higher Islamic Shiite Council Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan called on the heads of religious communities in Lebanon to form a committee to discuss the issue of civil marriage.

The Sheikh said that the study and review of the law should yield results that would be favorable in the eyes of God and not contradict with the teachings of Islam.

On the other hand, the Shiite Supreme Council lamented the development of this issue during what it called the sensitive stage overtaking the country, voicing its rejection of civil marriage since it contradicts with Shiite religious establishments and values.
