Parliamentary sub-committee resumes meetings, discusses hybrid proposal

       
The parliamentary subcommittee tasked with discussing the electoral law resumed its meetings today at 11:00 a.m. at the Administration and Justice Hall at Parliament building.               
Deputy Robert Ghanem chaired the session.              

Deputies Ali Fayyad, Ali Bazzi, Ahmad Fatfat, Serj Torsarkisain, Agop Pakradonian, Sami Gemayal, Alain Aoun, George Adwan and Akram Chehayeb attended the meeting.              
The session kicked off with one minute in silence over the two LAF martyrs who were killed in Arsal on Friday             

Former PM Saad Hariri’s initiative will be present within the discussions however it remains to be seen whether the sub-parliamentary committee will take it on as a valid suggestion.           
Prior to the session Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc MP Ali Fayyad made the first comments pertaining to Hariri’s initiative stating that the proportionality representation law remains favorable whilst the majoritarian system is completely rejected.                         

For his part, member of the Change and Reform Bloc MP Alain Aoun described the initiative as a concessional proposal.

Around 1:30 pm, MP Robert Ghanem held a press conference to deliver the meeting's results. Ghanem said that the committee will be resuming its meeting during the afternoon away from the media's eye, stressing that tomorrow's meeting will be held at 10 am. He also confirmed that the draft law proposed by the Future Movement was refereed to the joint parliamentary committees, emphasizing that the sub-committee is not tasked to discuss it.
