Brig. Gen. Gibran unfolds details of the 3-hour Qaa Reem operation

Ahmad Deebo Amhaz, Bilal Khalil Ghazawi and Tarek Samir Hijazi stole a BMW X6 from Beirut on Sunday morning and fled to the Bekaa region.     

Upon reaching Qaa Reem area at 8:15 am, the vehicle broke down enabling the ISF officers to arrest the three thieves.         

Gunshots were exchanged between the thieves and the ISF, injuring two of the wanted men, who were later transferred to Khoury Hospital and put under strict surveillance. The ISF managed to apprehend the third men.        

Brig. Gen. Salah Gibran held a security meeting afterwards at the office of the ISF commander of the Bekaa region Brig. Gen. Charles Atta, during which he was briefed on the outcomes of the security operation.    

Gibran unfolded the details of the security operation which was carried out by Bekaa’s ISF department upon receiving the theft alert.    

The car rental company, from which the relevant vehicle was rented, managed through the GPS device to spot the location of the car.  Fifty officers, backed by the contraband division, judiciary police and the LAF, were deployed for the security operation.     

Gibran extended thanks to the LAF and commended the efforts of Brig. Gen. Atta and his officers.         

In his turn, President Michel Sleiman praised the readiness of the ISF, highlighting the very short time during which the security operation was carried out.      

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel briefed Sleiman on the ins and outs of the three-hour security operation.
