European Commission grants Lebanon € 30 Mln to deal with Syrian refugees crisis

Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Štefan Füle announced on Monday that the European Commission will provide an additional € 30 million to Lebanon to address the high flood of Syrian refugees to Lebanon.

“Lebanon receives the highest number of people fleeing the bloodshed in Syria and we are aware that it puts this country under enormous burden", he added.

Füle tackled the Syrian refugees' conditions in Lebanon with Social Affairs Minister Wael Abou Faour, in the presence of the European Union ambassador to Lebanon Angelina Eichhorst.

Earlier, Füle arrived to Beirut and met with president Michel Sleiman and PM Najib Mikati.

It is worth mentioning that the additional € 30 million brings the total amount of financial assistance provided by the European Commission to Lebanon regarding to the Syrian crisis to almost € 75 million in humanitarian and non-humanitarian aid.
