Sniping
operations re-erupted on Monday in Tripoli's Jabal Mohsen and Bab
al-Tabbaneh, noting that a bomb was thrown at Jabal Mohsen.
However, the media official of the Arab Democratic Party, Abdul Latif Saleh told LBCI that a mortar shell fell in Jabal
Mohsen without exploding, while the Lebanese Army is working on
dismantling it.
Earlier,
a cautious calm had prevailed following heavy fighting that erupted
over the span of the weekend on the backdrop of the cabinet’s

Sporadic
gunshots were also reported as residents from Bab el-Tebbaneh walked in
the funeral procession of citizen Mohammad Soueid who was injured in
the clashes that had erupted during the past few days on the backdrop of
the cabinet's resignation.
A cautious calm had prevailed in the city on Monday morning as caretaker Prime Minister
and Tripoli native, Najib Mikati arrived to the city where he was
received by flocks of supporters.
Mikati reiterated that his
resignation comes in line with opening a pathway to dialogue among the
opposing Lebanese factions, stressing that dialogue is the only means of
achieving consensus.
The outgoing premier said that the success
of the new cabinet is more of a vital issue than the appointment of a
new Prime Minister to lead the government, adding that the plans that
were designated for Tripoli will remain in effect.
“Things can only go better for Tripoli and the Lebanese Armed Forces are doing their utmost in this regard,” he said.
In
addition, the outgoing PM said that a 'rescue' government should be
formed, and stressed on the need to eliminate armed cells in all
Lebanese areas.
Mikati also met with the Internal Security Forces
Director General Major General Ashraf Riffi, whose mandate extension
deadlocked the cabinet session on Friday after March 8 components
refused to comply to the demands pertaining to the extension of his
mandate.
In parallel, Mikati discussed with civil, economic and
social bodies as well as representatives of numerous sectors the
situation in Tripoli, noting that he initially deferred his resignation
in order to adopt the series of ranks and salaries, stressing that no
economic repercussions will ensue as a result.
