Independent Christian officials: Gov’s resignation eases all fears

Independent Christian officials said on Monday that the government’s resignation comes during a critical time in both Lebanon and the region, calling on all parties to act wisely and to give up “impossible conditions”.

Following the meeting held with MP Boutros Harb at his residence, a statement was issued and read by MP Antoine Saad, whereby the officials hoped that Mikati’s resignation will put an end to the corruption rampant in numerous ministries.

The officials expressed their support to President Michel Sleiman in forming a new cabinet capable of filling the void, holding the elections on time and drafting a new electoral law which represents all the Lebanese people, stressing that the ministerial statement of the new cabinet must be based on the Baabda Declaration.

On the other hand, the Christian officials welcomed the call for national dialogue and the need to respect constitutional criteria in forming a new cabinet, in a way to preserve the prerogatives of both the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister.
