Plumbly meets Hezbollah official, urges all factions to respect Baabda Declaration

United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Derek Plumbly held on Monday talks with Hezbollah's International Relations official Sayyed Ammar Moussawi.

During the meeting, Plumbly praised the nomination of Tammam Salam as Prime Minister-designate, condemning the recent violations along the Lebanese-Syrian border.

Plumbly said that the Security Council reiterated the importance of respecting Lebanon’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, stressing the need for all concerned Lebanese factions to respect Lebanon’s policy of dissociation and the Baabda Declaration.

He encouraged all parties "to work together to form a new government as soon as possible.”

Discussions also tackled the implementation of U.N. Security Council resolution 1701, whereby Plumbly hailed the calm prevailing in southern Lebanon.

The Baabda Declaration was adopted during a national dialogue session in June.

It calls for Lebanon to disassociate itself from regional crises, mainly in Syria.
