Military Examining Magistrate issues arrest warrants for Ain Zhalta incident

Military Examining Magistrate, Imad al-Zain, issued on Monday an arrest warrant in absentia against Kabi al-Zaar and Khaled Ezeddine on charges of attempting to smuggle weapons in Ain Zhalta on the 7th of April.

In this regard, another identified defendant who did not attend the session will be investigated, noting that the investigation will also work on revealing the identities of the other five suspects in the Ain Zhalta incident.

The Lebanese Armed Forces Command declared on April 7 that after the Intelligence Directorate received reports stating that a group of militants was attempting to smuggle weapons to extremist forces, a military unit thwarted the attempt in the Chouf area of Ain Zhalta arresting the assailants red-handed.

Accordingly, an exchange of fire erupted between the military unit and the militants, leading to the injury of one soldier, the death of a gunman identified as Ghassan al-Zaar and the injury of another identified as Mohammad Sarhan, while seven gunmen were arrested.

The LAF confiscated the cache of weapons which included large and medium sized artillery as well as a large amount of ammunition.
