Constitutional Council reviews electoral deadlines’ appeal

The Constitutional Council began on Monday reviewing the appeal presented by 11 MPs including the National Struggle Front deputies in regards to the draft law that suspends the electoral deadlines.

In this context, the Constitutional Council will appoint a rapporteur to study the dossier within the 10 coming days.

On the 10th of April 2013, Lebanese President Michel Sleiman signed a draft law suspending electoral deadlines pertaining to the 1960 electoral law until the 19th of May.

The draft law also sets the final date to submit candidature applications 3 weeks prior to the elections. The final week ahead of the deadline will be the final date for the withdrawal of candidacies.
