Pope Leo XIV urges unity and hope during open-air Mass in Beirut: Reawaken in our hearts the dream of a united Lebanon

During an open-air Holy Mass in Beirut on Tuesday, Pope Leo XIV addressed the people of Lebanon, urging gratitude, faith, and solidarity amid the country’s ongoing challenges.

Speaking from the Beirut waterfront, he reflected on Lebanon’s beauty, its struggles, and the small signs of hope that continue to shine through difficult times.

The pope highlighted the resilience of Lebanese families, the dedication of priests and religious communities, and the work of charitable organizations, describing them as “small shoots” of hope that can help the nation flourish despite adversity.

“Let us cast off the armor of our ethnic and political divisions, open our religious confessions to mutual encounter, and reawaken in our hearts the dream of a united Lebanon,” he said. “A Lebanon where peace and justice reign, where all recognize each other as brothers and sisters.”
