Qatari Prince meets Amin Gemayel in Doha, tackles electoral file

Qatari Prince, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani held a meeting on Monday in Doha with Kataeb party leader Amin Gemayel whereby both officials tackled the obstacles hurdling the formation of the new Lebanese government and the adoption of an electoral law.

Sources close to Gemayel quoted the Qatari Prince as saying that "he is adamant on reaching consensus in Lebanon which strengthens stability on the political and security levels.

For his part, Gemayel stressed that reaching consensus over a new electoral law is "inevitable", noting that the electoral debate is "positive".

In this context, Gemayel said that the adoption of an electoral law could pave the way for holding "honest" parliamentary elections, adding that he has confidence in the Lebanese politicians' capability to overcome all kinds of difficulties.

Gemayel also tackled the Baabda Declaration and the policy of dissociation, and slammed the involvement of some Lebanese groups in the Syrian crisis, adding that it takes a toll on the stability and national unity in Lebanon.

Talks also featured high on the situation taking place in Syria between the two officials, however no further details were provided in this regard.
