MP Aoun: Deputies should adhere to previous agreements

Head of the Change and Reform Bloc MP Michel Aoun said on Tuesday that “if deputies fail to reach a new electoral law, the upcoming parliamentary elections will be held on the basis of the 1960 electoral law”.

Following the bloc’s weekly meeting, MP Aoun suggested presenting both the Orthodox Gathering and the hybrid electoral draft laws for voting at parliament, adding that his bloc will accept these results.

In this regard, MP Aoun said that deputies should commit to previous commitments seemingly since they agreed during their meetings in Bkerke on the Orthodox Gathering electoral draft and on the adoption of the medium-sized districts on the basis of the proportional representation system.

Aoun added that the Orthodox Gathering draft was not approved during last week’s General Authority session due to lack of quorum; however, the electoral proposal presented by Lebanese Forces and their allies was also rejected.
