Lebanon’s president confirms death of French UNIFIL soldier injured in south Lebanon incident

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun was informed on Wednesday of the death of a French soldier who had been among those injured in a shooting incident targeting a patrol of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in the town of Ghandouriyeh in southern Lebanon several days ago.

Aoun renewed his condemnation of the incident and reiterated his condolences to the French state and UNIFIL command, saying the fallen soldier joins other members of international forces who have been killed in southern Lebanon.

He said they “shed their blood on the land of the south,” alongside Lebanese army and other security personnel killed in service.
