Lebanese president praises workers' resilience on Labor Day

President Joseph Aoun paid tribute to workers across Lebanon on Labor Day, commending their perseverance and sacrifices amid the country's ongoing crises.

In a statement marking the occasion, Aoun acknowledged the severe economic and social hardships facing Lebanese citizens, noting that workers have borne a significant share of the burden. He said he was fully aware of the challenges they face, from declining living standards to the impact of successive crises on daily life.

Despite these conditions, Aoun praised what he described as the workers' "rare resilience" and continued commitment to productivity, calling them the backbone of the Lebanese economy.

The president said that, in coordination with the government, efforts had been underway to launch a reform process aimed at stabilizing the economy and restoring growth before the latest war further complicated the situation. He stressed that these efforts would continue, with a focus on rebuilding, restoring confidence, and creating job opportunities.

Aoun also reaffirmed his commitment, alongside the government, to improving workers' conditions by supporting their rights, strengthening social protections, and ensuring a fair working environment that preserves dignity and rewards effort.

“You are the backbone of the Lebanese economy,” he said, adding that no reform plan could succeed without the contribution of workers.
