LBCI reporting leads to minister following up on child abuse case

A few short hours after LBCI broadcast the tragedy of eight-year-old Ibrahim on Friday, Social Affairs Minister Wael Abou Faour took action as he revealed to south Lebanon Prosecutor Judge Samih al-Hajj his decision to, in his capacity as head of the Higher Council for Childhood, file charges against those who abused the child.    

LBCI took a tour with Abou Faour and headed to the Sidon Public Hospital where Ibrahim is receiving treatment.  Abou Faour checked on the child’s situation without giving access to media coverage. As he left Ibrahim’s room, Abou Faour could not conceal his heartfelt concern. “One cannot see more brutality,” he said.       

As he was wrapping up his tour, Abou Faour insisted on meeting with Mahmoud Hajj, who appeared in the previous report helping Ibrahim get through his ordeal.     

Ibrahim will reclaim his right to life and education just like any other child, away from the abuse of his step-father. Beyond getting his life back, his legal status will be settled and his father’s identity will be determined once the DNA test results have been revealed.
