MP Arslan: Sleiman should have cooperated with Berri

Lebanese Democratic Party leader MP Talal Arslan commented on the statement of President Michel Sleiman whereby he appealed the extension of parliament’s mandate, noting that “Sleiman should have cooperated with Speaker Nabih Berri in order to reach consensus over a ‘modern’ electoral law”.

“President Sleiman did not summon any Lebanese party in a bid to hold consultations over any kind of electoral law. He only called for holding the parliamentary elections on their due date,” MP Arslan added.

MP Arslan also pointed out that “Berri has exerted, on his own, tireless efforts with all parties in order to reach common grounds over a new electoral law,” noting that he held several consultations in the parliament and Ain el-Tineh in this regard.
