Rockets from Syrian side hit the outskirts of Baalbek

        
Rockets from the Syrian side crashed late on Wednesday on the outskirts of Baalbek, which constitutes the second largest cross-border salvo to hit the Hezbollah stronghold since Syrian rebels vowed to retaliate for the party's armed support provided for the Syrian regime.          

As-Safir Daily reported on Thursday that the rockets hit the western areas of the city of Baalbek, including al-Sharawneh, al-Basatine and Laat, leaving three children wounded, and causing material damages to a house owned by Kamal Ramadan.        

For its part, the state-run National News Agency said that 11 rockets had landed on the outskirts of Baalbek, and did not confirm whether the attack caused casualties.          

In turn, security sources told Agence France Presse that two people were wounded in the attack, which came in light of the Syrian Army's announcement whereby it declared complete control over the al-Qusayr area, a strategic post of rebels fighting to oust President Bashar Assad.           

Last week, over 18 rockets crashed in the Baalbek region.          

Over the past weeks, Syrian rebels also launched dozens of rockets on the  region of Hermel, across the border from Qusayr.  

Lebanon has been reeling from the spillover of the two-year Syrian conflict while Hezbollah's involvement in the Syrian raging battles may cause further backlash from Syrian rebels who threatened to attack the party's bases in Lebanon if it does not withdraw from Syria.
