Geagea: Hezbollah may not take part of a “true Lebanese gov’t”

Lebanese Forces Chief Samir Geagea said on Wednesday that all policies practiced by March 8 forces are policies of annihilating the opposing team, and mentioned that these forces are intimidating the public opinion by talking about the Al-Nusra Front.

During a press conference held at his residence in Maarab, Geagea said that the killing of Lebanese citizen Hachem Salman outside the Iranian embassy during a protest to denounce Hezbollah’s participation in the Syrian crisis, is a takfiri action par excellence.

“I call on the Lebanese Army to launch an investigation into Hachem Salman’s killing since his murder occurred in the presence of security forces,” Geagea said.

On the death of citizen Ali Hjairy, Geagea called on Lebanese officials to look into this incident since it will cause hatred on the streets, adding that Lebanese citizens are currently feeling worried and threatened by the latest events in the country.

Geagea mentioned that the Lebanese government will be contributing to its own downfall if it shows inaction regarding the latest security incidents, adding that officials should not ignore the volatile security breaches on the ground.

In regards to the extension of the parliament’s mandate and the appeals raised by President Michel Sleiman and the Free Patriotic Movement, Geagea said that any political intervention within the decision making process of the Constitutional Council will paralyze the Council’s mission.

Geagea stressed that the LF are with holding a legitimate session of the Council regardless of its outcome, and mentioned that the actions of some political parties are based on their confidence of winning the upcoming parliamentary elections.

As for the formation of a new cabinet, Geagea called on president Michel Sleiman and Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam to form a ‘true Lebanese government’ stressing that Hezbollah cannot be part of this cabinet since its interests stretch further than that of the Lebanese state.

“The Lebanese cabinet should be made up of those keen on Lebanon’s interest rather than being interested in foreign countries’ agendas,” Geagea concluded.
