Jeita Grotto loses 100,000 votes, but pressing on with competition

The organizers of the New 7 Wonders of Nature competition warned of excluding Jeita Grotto from the competition after Lebanese mobile provider “MTC Touch” sent 10,000 text messages (sms) to support the Grotto.

The general manager at Jeita Grotto Nabil Haddad told LBCI that what MTC Touch did is prohibited by the competition organizer’s rules and regulations. The New 7 Wonder rules stipulate that voting cannot be carried out for commercial purposes by a company that is not licensed and contractually bound to the organizers.

Haddad called on the citizens to vote intensively, assuring that both he and MTC are ready to help find a solution to this situation.

Shortly after the interview with Haddad a deal was struck when MTC agreed to withdraw all 100,000 votes in order to keep Jeita Grotto in the competition.

Voting ends on Friday at 1 pm.
