A demand for property tax has been sent to the grave of a deceased woman in the small Brittany seaside town of Sarzeau, according to the local mayor, David Lappartient. In fact, French taxpayers are allowed to change their addresses online provided they give the correct reference number to simplify administrative procedures.
The head of the Sarzeau treasury, Christophe Libre, told the Ouest-France newspaper: It could be “a joke by someone who registered the change of address online,” suggesting that it may have been “one of the heirs who didn't want to pay the property tax”.
