Will Lebanon be affected by Arab economic sanctions against Syria?

The governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, Riad Salameh, said that given that Lebanon is not committed to the Arab financial and economic sanctions imposed on Syria, it does not have to adopt any new financial measures.

“There are no financial relations to begin with between the Lebanese Central Bank, the Syrian Central Bank and the Syrian government’s assets”, he said.

Salameh told LBCI that money transfers to and from Lebanon are under constant surveillance, adding that this mission is assigned to the Special Investigation Commission (SIC), a body affiliated with the Central Bank and headed by its governor.
