Lebanese banks taking serious measure amid Syria crisis
After a series of economic sanctions on Syria imposed by the United States, the European Union and the Arab League, the Lebanese banks started to take measures to distance themselves from all these sanctions.

The Arab League, which voted to impose sanctions on Syria for failing to end a crackdown on protesters, has listed 17 people banned from travel to Arab states, including President Bashar al-Assad's brother.

Joseph Tarabay commented on that issue saying “Lebanese banks starting taking measures to protect their interests amid these sanctions as the smallest mistake can seriously affect us and will have serious repercussions on our economy”.

“We are calling on all banks to take the same measure as banking sector is an open and international market that can easily affect anyone”.

Tarabay added that the banks are carefully accepting demands from Lebanese customers and other nationalities to review the sanctions lists to prevent any mistake that could lead to serious problems
