Eid al-Fitr celebrations in the Arab world
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz prayed in Mecca on Tuesday, while large crowds of Muslim believers gathered at Al Haram Mosque and its surrounding squares. Former Lebanese PM Saad Hariri prayed alongside prominent Saudi officials.

In the Palestinian territories, President Mahmoud Abbas, PM Salam Fayyad and other Palestinian officials prayed on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr at Al-Tashrifat Mosque at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.

In the Gaza Strip, PM of the Hamas administration Ismail Haniye said that the Arab revolutions will benefit the Palestinian cause.

In Cairo, Muslim believers crowded Tahrir square to listen to an Eid al-Fitr sermon. The Imam urged the Egyptians to stand by their army, adding that Egypt is capable of protecting its security and sovereignty. The Imam said that the Egyptians have changed since the revolution.

In Iraq, celebrations took place this year amid tight security measures to prevent terrorist attacks.

Finally in Syria, President Bashar al-Assad prayed on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr at the Mosque named after his father late Syrian President Hafez al-Assad in Damascus. Sheikh Bashir Abdulbari said in his sermon: “The best way to face the foreign conspiracy against Syria is through reforms”.
