Frattini: Italy to stay No. 1 in Libyan energy sector

Italy's foreign minister says his country will keep its leading position in Libya's energy sector; even now that Muammar Gaddafi's regime has fallen.

Franco Frattini spoke on Saturday at an economics forum in the Lake Como resort town of Cernobbio. He said Italy would "keep its first place" thanks to energy giant ENI's decades- strong  position in Libya's oil and natural gas sectors.

Frattini says Italy is determined to remain Libya's top economic partner.

He noted other countries like Russia are anxious to confirm contracts penned during the Gaddafi era but that there is “nothing strange" in that.
