Arab League chief heads to Syria

Arab League chief Nabil Elaraby flew to Syria on Saturday to convey concerns over the bloodycrackdown on popular unrest that has killed hundreds, a League official and an airport sourcesaid.

Elaraby had originally been expected to travel to Damascus on Wednesday but Arab diplomatssaid the visit was delayed at Syria's request.

One source said the trip would last only a few hours.
