SNC launches diplomatic offensive against Assad regime

The Syrian National Council has launched diplomatic offensive on Tuesday to push the Arab League into adopting a tougher position against the Assad regime amid ongoing military operations in many Syrian towns.   

The SNC is planning to carry out “urgent visits" to Algeria, Sudan, Oman and Qatar, to inform several Arab foreign ministers of the regime's heinous crimes in Homs and other Syrian regions.    

The council will send an envoy to meet with the Arab League ahead of the ministerial meeting to be held next Saturday, in a bid to relay the demands of the Syrian people.    

The SNC disclosed a raft of demands including: freezing Syria's membership, imposing economic and diplomatic sanctions, and seeking the referral of allegations of genocide and other human rights violations by the regime to the International Criminal Court.  

The UN  reported on Tuesday that the death toll in the Syria crackdown has risen to at least 3,500.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the Syrian Army launched raids on many streets of Homs, killing two civilians.
