Iraqi Foreign Minister Faud Hussein flew to Iran for talks with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif on Wednesday (February 3).
Hussein landed in Tehran in the morning before travelling to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to meet Zarif.
The two greeted each other by touching elbows and posed for photographs in front of their respective country's flags.
On Monday (February 1), Zarif had said one way to bridge an impasse with Washington over the Iran/ U.S. nuclear deal was for an EU official to choreograph their steps to restore the 2015 pact abandoned in 2018 by then-President Donald Trump.
It was the first time Zarif had hinted Iran might relent in its demand that the United States ease economic sanctions before Tehran would resume compliance.
The Biden administration has insisted Iran return to compliance before it would do so and the U.S. State Department reacted coolly to the suggestion, although a U.S. official said the stance should not be seen as a rejection.
