UN says Ukraine war could allow illegal drug production to flourish

The United Nations warned on Monday that the war in Ukraine could allow illegal drug production to flourish, citing previous experiences in other conflict zones.

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime stated in its annual report that past experiences in the Middle East and Southeast Asia show that conflict zones can act as a "magnet" for the production of synthetic drugs.

It also added that this effect could be greater when the conflict area is close to large consumer markets.
