Iran rejects US accusations of plot to assassinate Bolton

Iran rejected on Thursday a US court's assertion of a plot led by a member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards to assassinate former White House National Security Adviser John Bolton, and dubbed it as "ridiculous".

On Wednesday, the US Department of Justice confirmed the discovery of an Iranian plot to assassinate Bolton, and announced that it accuses a member of the Revolutionary Guards.

The Justice Department said in a statement that Shahram Borsafi, 45, also known as Mehdi Rezaei, offered to pay $300,000 to people in the United States to kill Bolton, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, most likely in retaliation for the U.S. assassination of senior guard commander Qassem Soleimani in January 2020.

However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said in a statement that "US judicial officials and in the context of the US endless accusations against Iran as well as the continuation of the failed policy of intimidation against Iran and the fabrication of new stories, made accusations without providing documented evidence and necessary documents."
