Syrian FM heads to Russia on Thursday

A source said Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani will travel to Russia on Thursday.

Al-Shaibani will be the highest-ranking Syrian official to visit Moscow since the ouster of Moscow’s ally Bashar al-Assad in December and the appointment of a new government in Damascus.

Russia and the new Syrian government are holding talks over Moscow’s hopes to continue operating its naval and air bases in northwestern Syria.
