REPORT: Army Intelligence raided Western Bekaa in search of al-Qaeda-linked cell -sources

Sources told LBCI on Monday that the Lebanese Army Intelligence raided, during the past few days, the Western Bekaa region of Kemed al-Loz, in search of an al-Qaeda-linked cell which transferred Abdullah Azzam Brigades' leader Majed al-Majed from Hamed hospital in Western Bekaa towards al-Makased hospital in Beirut.

The cell which was raided by the army is linked to another cell dubbed Lala which includes 4 members identified as Khaled al-Hajj aka Abu Takkeh, Youssef Bakri, Rabih Shawdar and Ahmad Osman.

The aforementioned cell had transported Majed al-Majed from Syria's Qalamoun to the Lebanese border town of Arsal, and then to Hamed hospital where doctors were unable to treat him.

Later on, Majed al-Majed was taken to al-Makased hospital in Beirut where he was arrested.
A Lebanese army general said on Saturday the leader of an al-Qaeda-linked group that has conducted attacks across the Middle East before shifting its focus to Syria's civil war died in custody in Lebanon.

The general said Majed al-Majed died after suffering kidney failure.
In this regard, sources told LBCI that al-Majed was in a critical health condition the moment of his arrest, since he was suffering kidney failure.

Al-Majed, a Saudi citizen was detained in Lebanon late last month and had been held at a secret location.

He was the purported commander of the Abdullah Azzam Brigades and one of the 85 most-wanted individuals in his native Saudi Arabia.

The US State Department designated the group a foreign terrorist organization in 2012, freezing any assets it holds in the United States and banning Americans from doing business with the group.
