REPORT: Sniping operations continue between Tripoli's Bab al-Tebbaneh and Jabal Mohsen

Clashes eased on Saturday evening between the regions of Jabal Mohsen and Bab al-Tebbaneh, while sniping operations reached al-Malloulah region and the vegetables market as well as along Bab al-Tebbaneh highway between Abou Ali roundabout and al-Malloulah.

This as the state-run national News Agency reported that two people were injured in the clashes that erupted on Friday night  in Bab al-Tebbaneh neighborhood in Tripoli.

The injured were identified as: Ahmad Nasser and Ali Qassem.

Snipers remained active on all axes with Lebanese Armed Forces units retaliating to all sources of fire.

This comes as unknown armed men shot on Friday citizens Taleb Assi and Ahmad Eid in Tripoli's al-Qobbeh.

They were all transferred to Our lady of Zgharta Hospital, however citizen Taleb Assi died soon after.

Also on Friday, tensions erupted in Syria's street in Tripoli, mainly between Bab al-Tebbaneh and Jabal Mohsen neighborhoods.

The port city of Tripoli has long been a stronghold of Sunni Islamists in northern Lebanon.

But the city has become increasingly volatile in recent months due to the civil war in neighboring Syria, where the Sunni majority is leading a revolt against President Bashar al-Assad.

Disputes from neighboring Syria's civil war frequently inflame sectarian grievances in Tripoli. These clashes pit gunmen from both the mostly Sunni Bab Tabbaneh district and the Jabal Mohsen district which mostly comprises residents of Syrian President Bashar Assad's Alawite sect, a Shiite Islam offshoot.
