REPORT: Kataeb leader Gemayel: Electing a new head of state is a national responsibility
Kataeb party leader Amin Gemayel highlighted the need to intensify efforts in a bid to hold the presidential elections on time, warning that a potential power void will have dire repercussions on Lebanon's institutions.

The official's statements were made on Monday following a meeting with Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai in Bkerke.

Gemayel also called for finding means to avoid a presidential vacuum, and said: " It is a national responsibility to elect a new head of state".

In a question directed at Gemayel on whether he will visit Beirut's Southern Suburbs, he said the country can only be saved when all its components meet together.

The Beirut Southern Suburbs are part of the Lebanese territories, he said, calling on all leaders to bear their responsibilities throughout this critical phase.
