REPORT: ISF members stop construction works in disputed Lasa land
Internal Security Forces members deployed on Saturday in a disputed land in Lasa following reports of construction violations committed in the predominantly Shi'ite town.

ISF members stopped a Lassa resident, Yasar al-Meqdad, from continuing construction works on the land parcel which is claimed by the Maronite bishopric of Jounieh.

Meqdad, who insists on proceeding with construction works, told LBCI that he wasn't notified of any decision yet, calling on the Lebanese judiciary to be "fair".

"I wasn't the one who provoked a dispute with the Maronite Patriarchate and I didn't commit land violations," Meqdad said, accusing the Church of "assaulting" him.

The Public Prosecution issued on Friday a decision to demolish the controversial construction works that were built Thursday night in the Jbeil town of Lasa.

In this regard, the public prosecutor for Mount Lebanon, Judge Claude Karam, launched investigations into Lasa's violations.

The dispute over the Lasa land stretches back to decades.

Shi'ite residents in the said town are at loggerheads with the Maronite Patriarchate over the property ownership.
