REPORT: FPM leader MP Aoun visits PSP leader MP Jumblatt
Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun paid a visit on Wednesday to Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt in Clemenceau, a day after revealing that an agreement had been reached between several parties to extend the parliament’s mandate.

Jumblatt's son Taymour also attended the meeting.

Following the meeting, Aoun said that coordination between the FPM and the PSP is ongoing, adding that they did not discuss the presidential elections.

For his part, Jumblatt said that he discussed with Aoun issues related to the nation, adding that he is convinced with Aoun's rationale behind his candidacy for the presidency.

Aoun's visit came more than a month after a similar meeting between the two leaders was held at the FPM leader's residence in Rabieh.

During the August 6 meeting, Aoun and Jumblatt held talks over several issues, mainly Lebanon's battle with terrorism.

The two lawmakers also discussed the importance of keeping contacts between the PSP and the FPM "to bring the Lebanese people closer."

Lebanon has been witnessing a presidential vacuum since May 25 when Michel Sleiman's six-year mandate ended amid a failure by lawmakers to elect a successor over differences on a consensual candidate.

The March 14 alliance has backed the candidacy of Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea, while Hezbollah-led March 8 camp has not officially announced its support for Aoun, who has claimed that he would run for the presidency only if there was consensus on him.
