Speaker Nabih Berri stressed Wednesday that “no under-the-table deal has been made concerning the issue of the extension of the Parliament’s mandate.”
During his weekly meeting with his bloc’s deputies, Berri reiterated his complete rejection to the parliament’s extension, expressing his support for holding the parliamentary elections as scheduled.
“The recently submitted candidacies for the parliamentary elections are a hopeful sign,” he stated.
On another note, Berri pointed out that positive developments have been revealed concerning the possibility of reaching an agreement among the parliamentary blocs over holding a legislative session in order to discuss major pending national matters, such as the issue of the pay scale, the budget and the Eurobonds.
