REPORT: 8 Lebanese troops killed, at least 14 wounded in Ras Baalbek clashes
Cautious calm prevailed on Saturday in the Tallet al-Hamra area, located in Ras Baalbek’s barren range, and Lebanese Armed Forces units deployed to the site in the wake of Friday’s deadly clashes.       
 
The death toll from Friday’s clashes with gunmen rose to eight after three bodies of LAF soldiers were found today. More than 14 soldiers were also wounded.      
 
“Military units continued to deploy in Ras Baalbek’s barren range while pursuing the remaining terrorists who fled towards highlands,” the Army Command said on Saturday.       
 
Military sources told LBCI earlier that army soldiers had combed the mountainous region of Ras Baalbek, pointing out that the bodies of 3 LAF members were found.        
 
The sources also emphasized that there aren’t any missing soldiers from the Lebanese army.          
 
20 bodies of gunmen who fought the Lebanese army yesterday were found thus far.        
 
On Friday (January 23) the LAF Airborne Regiment managed to regain control over the army base of Tallet al-Hamra in Ras Baalbek, which was targeted earlier by armed groups.          
 
The Army Command issued a statement, declaring that one of the army locations in the mountainous regions of Ras Baalbek was attacked by a terrorist group, adding that the army forces blocked the attack with artillery, while firing at the gunmen’s gathering points and infiltration paths.
