REPORT: Families of Arsal abducted soldiers vow escalatory steps
The families and relatives of Arsal kidnapped troops reopened on Saturday Beirut's Riad al-Solh area after shortly closing it, voicing fear over the fate of their loved ones.
 
They also vowed to take escalatory steps as of next Thursday if the case of the abducted soldiers is not solved any time soon.
 
Nizam Mogheit, the brother of abducted soldier Ibrahim said the decision comes amid the growing “mystery” surrounding the case of the abducted troops.
 
“We are obliged to return to the streets,” the families said.
 
The angry relatives wondered if the case “is forgotten.”
 
“We are concerned more than ever as our children are obliged to face an unknown fate.”
 
On Friday, General Security chief Major General Abbas Ibrahim voiced optimism over the case of the troops held hostage by the al-Qaeda-affiliate al-Nusra Front.
 
“The negotiations are ongoing on the right track,” Ibrahim said, expressing hopes that mediation efforts with the al-Nusra Front will wrap up soon positively.
 
The Al-Nusra Front has in its captivity 16 troops, while nine remain held by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
The soldiers and policemen were abducted by armed men following clashes in the northeastern border town of Arsal in August with the Lebanese army.
 
A few of them have since been freed and four were executed so far.
