REPORT: Head of Lebanese Order of Physicians: Open ended strike to continue until Dr. Maalouf is released
The head of the Lebanese Order of Physicians Antoine Boustani declared on Tuesday an open ended strike until the release of Dr. Issam Maalouf.

He also called on media outlets to tackle the issue of baby Ella Tannous in a "serious manner".

Boustani’s comments were made during a sit-in staged by physicians in support of Dr. Maalouf.

He concluded by stressing that doctors are not “infallible,” adding that in case a medical error is committed, legal procedures would take their course.

Last Friday, the Order of Physicians issued a work stoppage order at hospitals and medical clinics across Lebanon after police arrested a doctor accused of neglecting Ella Tannous, a baby patient whose limbs later had to be amputated.

The decision, announced at a news conference, came two days after Dr. Issam Maalouf was detained.
