REPORT: Lebanese army arrests brother of Islamist militant in Tripoli

The state-run National News Agency reported on Friday that the Lebanese army apprehended overnight suspected Islamist Amir Mansour, the brother of Ossama Mansour, in the northern city of Tripoli.

The arrest that took place in Bab al-Tebbaneh prompted a wave of protests in the streets of the city.

The army tightened security measures in several regions in Bab al-Tebbaneh and the vegetable market to maintain stability.

Islamist militant Osama Mansour was killed in April by the police during an operation to capture a radical cleric in Tripoli.

Mansour belonged to an armed group that carried out terrorist attacks, and aimed at preparing bombs and explosive devices to target Lebanese troops in the area.
