Head of the Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun accused Saturday the cabinet of attempting a coup against the parliament, the constitutional council and the Lebanese army.
In a press conference held following the bloc’s extraordinary meeting in Rabieh, Aoun noted that all the decisions made by the cabinet are arbitrary.
“We have no blood on our hands, our conscience is clean and we can hold everyone responsible for their actions,” he added.
On another note, Aoun stressed that the Lebanese army should not be placed in confrontation with a peaceful protest, accusing the Lebanese Armed Forces Commander General Jean Kahwaji of politicizing the military institution by illegally serving some politicians' interests.
He also warned Kahwaji against dragging the army troops into a confrontation with the people.
“This is a government of garbage and obstruction standing in the way of development projects across the Lebanese regions,” he added.
In this regard, MP Aoun called all the members of the Free Patriotic Movement to take to the streets when the time is right, stressing that the right to protest is protected by the Constitution.
On another note, the FPM chief said that “had it not been for Hezbollah and its presence along the Lebanese border, the Christians would have faced the same fate as those of Nineveh in Iraq.”
