REPORT: Judge Abou Ghida orders release of 3 activists, 2 remain under detention
Military Investigative Judge Riad Abou Ghida issued on Friday a decision ordering the release of three civil society activists; Ramy Mahfouz, Hussein Ibrahim, and Fayez Yassin.

Following this decision, attorneys representing the activists noted that there is no justice in keeping Waref Sleiman and Pierre Hashash under detention, stressing that the issue of their release has become political.

Earlier, society activists staged a sit-in before the Military Court, pending the release of the five protesters who remain in custody.

During the sit-in, the families of the detainees called upon the judiciary not to be pressured by the political class.

On Monday (October 12) the military court ordered the release of six protesters who were accused of vandalism and assaulting policemen during an anti-government demonstration last week, but kept five others in custody.

Consequently, civil society activists announced an open-ended strike, pitching tents outside the military court.
