REPORT: Trial session of hardline cleric al-Assir postponed until January 5th
The trial session for hardline cleric and militant Ahmad al-Assir was postponed on Tuesday until the 5th of January, 2016.

During a session held at the Military Court, the attorney of Al-Assir presented arguments claiming that the prosecution of Al-Assir requires permission from Dar Al-Fatwa and that preliminary investigations with the latter are invalid.

Meanwhile, the head of the Islamic Endowment Sheikh Mohammad Anis Arwady refused in a call with LBCI to confirm or deny whether Al-Assir was indeed a Sheikh at Dar Al-Fatwa.

Several arrest warrants have been issued against al-Assir for forming armed groups, attacking the Lebanese army, and plotting the assassination of figures.

Al-Assir was arrested on August 15 at Beirut's International Airport while attempting to flee to Nigeria using a forged Palestinian passport.

The anti-Hezbollah cleric had been on the run since June 2013 after his armed supporters clashed with the Lebanese army in the southern city of Sidon's suburb of Abra. The clashes killed 18 Lebanese army soldiers.
